A group of Wanaka carolers entertained the residents of Elmslie House rest-home yesterday afternoon before taking to the streets on board the back of an Upper Clutha Transport truck to spread some Christmas cheer throughout the town and further afield.

The all-female choir sang on the lawn of the Wanaka Hotel, before travelling on their mobile stage to other performances at Kellys Flat in Wanaka, McMurdo Park in Albert Town, the Luggate cricket ground and Fraser Park in Lake Hawea.

Pictured during a joint sing-along yesterday afternoon are (from left) carol group co-ordinator and Wanaka's "Christmas fairy" Jen Anderson, Elmslie House residents David Young and Joyce Howe, and caroler Petrea McRobie.

Mrs Anderson organises many of Wanaka's Christmas festivities and decorations, including the stuffed Santas posed on various perches around town and the "Light up Wanaka" Christmas lights competition. She said the carol performances were simply about bringing smiles to people's faces by focusing on the fun of Christmas.

"It's just getting people out of the whole gift-buying and all that sort of thing and getting into the true spirit of what it's about; getting people and families together to have fun and not stress," Mrs Anderson said.
