Queenstown Lakes commissioners David Clarke and Sally Middleton adjourned a resource consent hearing in Wanaka yesterday, to consider whether a proposed building expansion at the church can go ahead.
Wanaka's Presbyterian parish wants to extend St Andrew's Church as it contemplates selling off a hall and property on the opposite side of Tenby St.
The church wants to add a 450sq m extension and use the new wing for activities it now conducts at its Tenby St hall.
The proposed extension would feature a second level of 45sq m, to be used as office space for the church's administration.
Lakes Environmental Wanaka planning team leader Michelle Grinlinton-Hancock has recommended to the commissioners that the building proposal be approved.
However, some of the church's neighbours are concerned about how the use of the new building would affect them.
G. and R. Williams, who have a neighbouring property at the rear of the church, have sought some conditions about the proposed development.
The Williams's want limits on the proposed extension's use, and an undertaking 21st-birthday parties would not be conducted at the new facility.
