Frocks, frivolity and firemen are seldom associated with one another, but this month the Arrowtown Volunteer Fire Brigade will support one of the town's most fashionable evenings.

The Frocks and Frivolity night will take the stage for a third time on Wednesday, September 28, after running successfully twice within the past 12 months.

Coming back from a similar event in Sydney, former local and fashionista Sharon Adamson teamed up with Arrowtown's Jil Leydon to pull together a night of vintage fashion.

"Its been really cool, a little bit quirky, and people have just loved it," Mrs Adamson said.

Frocks and Frivolity involves local women clearing their closets of unwanted designer labels and putting them on display for patrons to try on and take home.

"It's about reusing those beautiful pieces again and so everyone can benefit," Mrs Adamson said.

"Often, I see women sell off their own rack and buy from another. It's fantastic."

She said the quality of the clothing at the event had always impressed the organisers and people would get value for money.

"It's spring and people want to clean out their wardrobes, so why not make some money out of it?"

Mrs Leydon said women often felt "a little guilty" about shopping, but here the clothes were affordable and could, essentially, be exchanged at no cost.

At this year's event, members of the local volunteer fire brigade will get behind the bar to serve drinks to the fashionistas.

All funds raised from bar sales will go to the brigade.

Mrs Adamson said she already had more sellers with "high-quality garments" for this event than for the previous two.

Due to the increasing popularity of the event, this year's show will be held in the larger Athenaeum Hall.

It starts at 7pm and costs $5 per person.
