Mountainbikers of Alexandra (MOA) member Phil Oliver, of Alexandra, mows the side of the track on Flat Top Hill at Alexandra.

MOA was one of six New Zealand clubs that received part of $65,000 recently awarded by Trail Fund NZ to encourage volunteer stewardship of the New Zealand countryside.

MOA received $413 towards its project to improve existing trails on Flat Top Hill, and received about $3000 from the fund in November.

In 2013, MOA members contacted the Department of Conservation about the possibility of improving mountain-biking options in the Alexandra area, and started work on the trails after signing an agreement in 2014.

Other groups to get funding were on the West Coast, in Canterbury, Thames, Wellington and Te Iringa.
