Nasa will make the second attempt to launch a 4.5-tonne ''super pressure balloon'' from Wanaka Airport tomorrow.
The cloud cover and wind conditions that existed on Monday and prevented a launch are not predicted on Friday.
The estimated launch time is 8.30am but could be as late as 11am.
Cars will not be able to use State Highway 6 past the airport for between 30 and 40 minutes, and residents within a 2.1km radius and workers at the airport will have to stay indoors.
