New hotel proves to be a winner

The Rees Hotel and Luxury Apartments has been awarded a triple crown of industry awards, recognising the lakefront hotel as exceptional and among the best in New Zealand.

Qualmark has awarded The Rees 5 stars - a rating which puts it in the "exceptional" category.

The Qualmark organisation licenses professional and trustworthy New Zealand tourism businesses to use the Qualmark - "tourism's official quality mark" - to help international and domestic travellers select places to stay, things to do and ways to get around.

The Rees has also achieved a Silver Environ Award for its commitment to lead the way in creating a sustainable future by observing sensitive standards in its design and operating procedures.

To complete the award-winning treble, front office staff member Roman Lee Lo has received a highly sought-after scholarship from the Hospitality Standards Institute to continue his hotel management diploma in conjunction with his employment at The Rees.

The Rees chief executive Mark Rose said Mr Lee Lo's award was a "fantastic reflection" of his skills and also the value the institute put on establishments such as The Rees.

"With hotel construction completed, The Rees is already proving a great success . . .

"In the very short time The Rees has been open, we are winning a high degree of repeat business from our guests, and their word of mouth endorsements are rapidly spreading the message about the outstanding quality, value, and highly-trained staff at The Rees," Mr Rose said.
