A new feature of this year's Michael Hill New Zealand Golf Open will be a charity auction, to be held today, which will raise funds for the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind's Guide Dog Services.

The auction is being organised by real estate agency Bayleys and the group's executive director, David Poole, hopes the auction will raise "more than $75,000".

The auction is split into a silent auction and a live auction.

The silent auction has been open all week, with items ranging from wine and electronic gadgets to media prizes and holiday activities on offer.

Items range in value from $250 to $5000, and Mr Poole said total bids stood at more than $25,000 by 4pm yesterday.

The auction closes at noon today.

The live auction will be led by Bayleys chief auctioneer Hayden Duncan.

Ten prizes will be auctioned, donated by Bayleys branches and external companies, including rare wine, holidays and golf experiences and a 42 inch HD television.

The live auction takes place this afternoon at The Hills golf course.
