Queenstown retailers have not been the only ones waiting anxiously to see what effect forecast rain would have: the Wakatipu Rugby Club has had to postpone its club day.
The club's big day out, May Day, was scheduled to take place tomorrow, and the Wakatipu premiers were to take on Cromwell in their first home game of the 2010 season.
However, because of the heavy rain forecast, the game may be moved to the Queenstown Events Centre or be cancelled.
The events were to have begun with the under-15s at 11am, before the under-18s' curtain raiser at 1pm.
The club's refurbished clubrooms were to have been open all day and a sausage sizzle held. Supporters had been encouraged to dress in pink to be in the running for the best-dressed supporter prize of a trip for two to Milford Sound.
Club president Damien O'Connell said the venue for tomorrow's scheduled game would be determined today, but it could be cancelled if the ground at the Queenstown Events Centre was too wet.
"We don't know what's happening."
The club day is now scheduled for June 12 at the second Battle of the Basin for the season, when Wakatipu takes on the Arrowtown Bulls, in Queenstown.
