Same venue for Wanaka Rodeo despite the development

The annual Wanaka Rodeo on January 2 will go ahead at its usual venue on the Gordon property one more time, but with a new traffic access from Gordon Rd.

Peter and Dee Gordon have granted a lease to the Wanaka Rodeo Club on their Golfcourse Rd land for many years but development is now under way at the site for the Aspiring Lifestyle Retirement Village.

Earthworks are being done at the Golfcourse Rd access but the rodeo site is still intact.

It has long been accepted the rodeo will require a new venue and the large Queenstown Lakes District Council reserve at Albert Town is a likely place.

The Wanaka Community Board approved the use of the reserve for a rodeo last year, but it was not required.

Entries were strong for January 2 and the club was hoping for a large public turnout.
