Treble Cone skifield will install new ''smart card'' technology for skiers and snowboarders who buy chairlift passes next season.
The skifield's smart card ticketing system will implement a radio frequency identification (RFID) in lift passes, which removes the necessity for individual day, multi and season lift passes to be scanned by operators.
The new technology replaces an outdated ticketing system, which was unable to scan the cards of season lift pass holders for the first six weeks of the winter this year.
The new smart card system, which was installed and announced success at Queenstown's Coronet Peak skifield this year, also allows skiers and snowboarders to monitor the vertical amount of metres skied during a season.
The RFID ticketing system will be installed during the summer and operational gates will be placed at the six-seater Home Basin chairlift and at the quad-chair in the Saddle Basin.
RFID tags are embedded in cards allowing an access gate to confirm a ticket's authenticity and open automatically.
