Original music artists are invited to audition on February 23 for the 2014 Songstars competition in the Queenstown Memorial Centre from March 27-29.

Hopefuls will be allocated 20 minutes to perform their own song in front of director Margaret O'Hanlon and fellow trustees in the Qpact rooms.

More than 20 people auditioned last year for the competition eventually won by Sam Maxwell (pictured).

The Queenstown teen professionally recorded his moving tribute to his late father, titled Slip and Fall, in York St Studios, Auckland, in August.

The same opportunity is offered to the winner of this year's contest.

His track featured on the Play It Strange 2013 CD with the support of the trust's founder and former Split Enz member Mike Chunn.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
