Gangster-themed Luciano's restaurant on Steamer Wharf, is closing tomorrow.

Owner and chef Davey McKenzie said he had sold the business and was planning to open another restaurant.

When asked why he was had sold, he simply said "it was time to sell".

He remained tight-lipped about the new business venture, saying only that it would be in Queenstown.

Luciano's was sold to Marcus Gary, a head chef who worked with Luciano's owner eight years ago when Mr McKenzie first arrived in Queenstown.

"He [Mr Gary] is a very talented chef and I look forward to trying his food," Mr McKenzie said.

While unsure whether Luciano's would keep its gangster theme and menu, he said the restaurant was due to reopen in June.

Luciano's opened six years ago as Mr McKenzie's first business.

To his patrons, he said: "It's been fantastic over the last six years, and I look forward to seeing you at the next place".
