The Arrowtown Autumn Festival's Wallace and Gibbs Art 2 Wear wearable art show is returning this year as a two-night event, with entries now open.

The 274 tickets for last year's show sold out within a week, prompting the opening of a dress rehearsal for those who missed out.

Art 2 Wear organiser Deborah Husheer said the third event would be changed in accordance.

"Based on that and the feedback we have had, we are going to hold it over two nights to ensure people do not miss out on tickets," Mrs Husheer said.

Held in Arrowtown's Athenaeum Hall, the show is part of the autumn festival, which last year attracted thousands of visitors and local residents over 10 days for its 27th year of celebrations.

The 2012 show will again have four categories; Pure Gold; Underwater World; Transformation; and Food for Thought.

The winner of each category will take home $1000 prizemoney, with the audience also voting for a "people's choice" winner for each night, who will be awarded $500.

Last year's competition attracted about 22 entries and Mrs Husheer hoped that its growing popularity and interest would see more people enter this year. Hopeful artists have until February 11 to submit entries and the garments must be completed by April 6 prior to the April 27 and 28 shows.
