Two children suffering from cancer will be able to attend Camp Quality thanks to the efforts of a young Queenstown cyclist.

Eleven-year-old St Joseph's School pupil Samuel Muir raised $5127.90 for the charity by cycling the 152km Central Otago Rail Trail earlier this month.

Camp Quality chairman Wayne Collie (second from left) attended the St Joseph's School assembly yesterday to receive the cheque from Samuel (second from right), and to surprise him with an award for his efforts. Also pictured are Georgia Henderson (12, left) and Charlotte Muir (12).

Camp Quality provides a getaway for children diagnosed with cancer.

Mr Collie said what Samuel had done was "very special".

The money raised would pay for two children to attend the camp. Samuel had initially only been aiming to raise enough money to allow one person to attend.

Mr Collie also presented an award to the school for claiming the top spot in a nationwide fundraiser for the charity last year.
