The driver of a bus which ''clipped'' a pedestrian in Queenstown yesterday was shaken, while the tourist was left concussed.

Emergency services were called to the incident just after 2pm, on the corner of Gorge Rd and Turner St. It is understood a Chinese tourist stepped out in front of the Pacific Tourways vehicle.

Company general manager Doug Kirk, of Christchurch, confirmed one of its staff was involved. He said no passengers were on board at the time.

''The driver is unhurt but he is understandably shaken by the incident, which is most unfortunate.''

Acting territory manager for St John Otago Dianne Payne said the Chinese man, in his 40s, suffered concussion.

''[He] walked into the bus, was clipped by the wing mirror.''

He was assessed at the scene and taken to Lakes District Hospital for further treatment. Police declined to comment at the scene of the accident.
