NZ reps impress

Two rained-out games hog-tied New Zealand’s prospects at last month’s under-19 Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe, but Queenstown’s two reps still made useful contributions.

They were opening batter Hugo Bogue, second left, and fast bowler Mason Clarke, second right, who are pictured with Hugo’s parents Angela Spackman and Reuben Bogue.

Hugo, 17, had some explosive knocks, including 39 against Pakistan, off 27 balls, with six 4s and two 6s, and 10 off two balls against the United States before rain set in, while Mason, 18, a contracted Otago player who also played in the same tournament in 2024, had some two- and three-wicket bags and took a great outfield catch.

Spackman says the boys found the whole campaign challenging, ‘‘but they have come away with many lessons, some friends for life and a continued love of the game’’.
