It appears there was some activity on rumoured Mission Impossible 6 sets in Queenstown yesterday, with helicopters buzzing above Kinloch and tight security at a "man-made fort" constructed beside Nevis Rd near Bannockburn.

A Gulfstream IV private jet often used by mega-star Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible franchise lead actor, is parked  at Queenstown Airport.

The two sets are believed to be for the movie.

It's not clear if Cruise, or fellow stars Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg or Alec Baldwin, are in Queenstown for filming.

However, the New Zealand Herald reported today it was understood Cruise arrived yesterday.

A witness said a matt-black helicopter was being filmed flying around Kinloch yesterday while people clad in black, wearing black sunglasses moved around it on the ground.

Another witness said he drove by a film set on lofty Duffers Saddle, on Nevis Rd, yesterday afternoon.

It resembled a French Foreign legion fort or "something out of the Vietnam War", he said.

It had watchtowers, a barbed wire fence and a New Zealand flag flying above it.

"It looked really good."

A security guard was at the site.

Several large buildings have been constructed at Kinloch as part of a movie set.
