Cultural items exchanged in school visit

Chinese culture was on show at St Joseph's School in Queenstown yesterday, when a group of students visited.

Some of the students performed special cultural dances, while St Joseph's pupils responded with traditional waiata and songs performed by the school choir.

There were also speeches from Mayoress Karen Boult, St Joseph's principal Trisch Inder and members of the Chinese delegation.

Mrs Boult said sharing different cultures through traditions and performances was "a fabulous way to build connections and understanding between our next generations".

The event was organised by the New Zealand Hubei Culture Trade Economy Association.

Executive member Yurong She said the group was initially invited to perform at schools around Christchurch, and she wanted to extend the visit to Queenstown, "the most beautiful town in the South Island".

The performances were followed by a shared morning tea and school tour.
