Flyer loco to run

One of the Kingston Flyer’s locomotives will be running on tracks on Sunday.

A community day to remember the late Russell Glendinning (71), of Kingston, who worked on the Flyer for about 40 years, will begin at 11am.

Event organiser Michelle Crawford said yesterday approval had come through on Thursday for one of the two locomotives to run under its own steam.

The engine will travel back and forth about 150m.

The family-friendly event includes activities for children, music, food and drink stalls.

The running engine will be riding solo, with no carriages attached, while the second engine will be on display with two carriages.

Entry is $5 for adults, children under 18 free.

Money raised would go towards restoration, with a goal of getting both engines running again.
