Police are still investigating the circumstances of a fatal crash near Queenstown six weeks ago.

Frankton residents Simran Mala, 25, and her partner, Jamie Pitman, 35, along with the couple’s unborn daughter, due in October, were killed in the two-vehicle collision on Malaghans Rd, between Queenstown and Arrowtown, about 10.30pm on June 27.

The couple died at the scene of the crash, which also involved a Millbrook Resort shuttle, near the Waikaka Church.

Five others were injured.

Hato Hone St John responded to the crash with three ambulances and a helicopter, along with Fire and Emergency NZ crews from Arrowtown, Frankton and Queenstown, and police — the road remained closed until about noon the following day.

While the deaths have been referred to the coroner, a police media spokeswoman says there’s "no update that we can provide at this time".

"Fatal crash investigations take some time, typically several months, [and] while the investigation is ongoing, we are limited in the comment/information we can provide."
