'It would be nice to have some snow': Skifield manager

Coronet Peak boss Nigel Kerr is praying to the weather gods.

The ski area manager said he was hoping for snow overnight, after several days of warm temperatures left Coronet Peak looking patchy.

It comes after a slow start to the ski season in Queenstown and Wanaka, with Treble Cone remaining closed.

Mr Kerr said the situation was "not great''.

"There's still fun to be had, but it would be nice to have some snow,'' he said.

Temperatures were expected to drop tonight and the snow-makers would be back on, he said.

That meant the mountain would be closed for night skiing tonight.

Despite the lack of snow, Mr Kerr said a surprising number of people had still been making the trek up the mountain for sledding, playing in the snow, and to hit the learners slope, which was still in good shape.

A video posted by Robbie Rock on Facebook this morning showed little snow at Coronet Peak, although some skiers were still hitting the slopes.
