Jet-boats back in action

Shotover Jet-boats were back on the water yesterday morning, two days after a willow tree fell on the river bank, injuring five people.

Delwen George (5), of Wellington, sustained internal injuries and his baby sister was also injured when the tree fell in high winds about 1pm on Tuesday.

Their mother, Selma George, had a fractured femur and dislocated hip and another male, understood to be the children's father, was also injured.

He and another, unrelated, male were both discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

Yesterday one of the children and their mother were in stable conditions on general wards.

The other child was discharged.

The group had been sitting near the tree watching the jet-boats on the water when it fell on them during high winds.

Shotover Jet suspended operations soon after the incident and resumed again at 11am yesterday.

The fallen tree has been inspected by an arborist who will compile a report for authorities, including the police and Department of Conservation.
