Hosted by the Queenstown Korean Association (QKA), the event is one of 19 worldwide to be supported by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, providing funding to bring in performers, including award-winning K-pop dancers, traditional Korean dancers, Samulnori (Korean percussion) musicians and Taekwondo exponents from across New Zealand.
The event, at the Queenstown Memorial Centre, is also being supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Queenstown’s council.
Event-goers can try on traditional Korean attire in a cultural booth or play squid games based on the popular TV series. There’ll also be a Korean food market, supported by Queenstown’s Hikari Sushi, that’ll be serving homemade kimchi, Korean fried chicken and other Korean street foods.
"We hope this event will create a joyful space where people can experience the warmth, rhythm and flavours of Korea and celebrate the diversity that makes Queenstown such a special place," says QKA president Hana Kim, who instigated the event.
Doors open 12.30pm with performances from 2pm. Entry’s by gold coin donation to support Korean language education and cultural programmes for local kids.
