Queenstown's public library reopened this morning following the discovery of a diesel spill in the building on Monday.

Up to 100 litres of diesel leaked from a tank in the ceiling of the Gorge Rd building, seeping through ceilings and walls into the Queenstown Lakes District Council's main office, and also into the library one storey below.

Council staff are working from other offices this week as the clean-up and repairs continue.

The office is expected to remain closed until next week at the earliest.
