The "Luma Enchanted" forest walk operated at the resort town’s Kiwi Park over the past winter on a temporary basis.
It was a smaller version of the popular show that operated in the Queenstown Gardens for several nights every winter, except for 2020, for nearly a decade until last year.
Luma Enchanted Ltd applied to the Department of Conservation for a 30-year lease of a forested, 3700sqm site in One Mile Reserve, near the town centre.
Its parent company was production house Screentime New Zealand, known for filming television series such as A Remarkable Place to Die and Masterchef in Queenstown.
The application said the attraction would operate daily and year-round, 9am-11pm, on the sloping site, which sits between the One Mile roundabout and Thompson St.
Up to 300 guests at a time would follow a loop trail through the forest to view the light show and art installations, which would tell a story of New Zealand’s native and introduced animals in an "abstract, surreal and fun, whimsical ‘enchanted’ way".
Each installation would have speakers creating a "soundscape".
"The nature of the sound will be ambient, primarily based around forest sounds — birdsong, waterfalls, etc.
"All music will complement the natural world."
Part of the site would have food trucks and merchandising.
Screentime New Zealand chief executive Philly de Lacey, who was overseas, could not be reached for comment.
Submissions on the application close November 13.
