Aptly titled The Button Box, the performance debuted at the Hawea Flat community hall with a matinee performance yesterday.
There will be a second - and final - performance of the play, involving about 120 pupils, for family and friends tonight.
The show is the culmination of a term's work surrounding the inquiry topic ‘‘arts around the world''.
Principal Sue Heath said small groups of children had each had taken responsibility for various components of the production, from the musical elements to the props to designing and creating tickets and advertising posters.
The story of The Button Box is based around two bored children staying with their grandparents on a wet day.
They knock over Grandma's button box, spilling out an array of buttons which instigates a series of stories about where each button comes from, each told in a song with an ‘‘around the world'' flavour.
