The work will include the installation of a barbecue, shelter, picnic table and playground.
The development was accepted by the Queenstown Lakes District Council in mid-2017 and council spokesman Jimmy Sygrove said it was hoped work would be completed by June.
Parks and Reserves officer Diana Manson said while the work area would be surrounded by fencing, the main park area would still be able to be used.
