Late last year, the Brookes Rd store marked their 10th birthday with a community celebration, at which Women’s Shed Queenstown founder Alex van Dam and Hannah Covington built a playhouse from materials supplied by Mitre 10.
The store then called for nominations from the community to find a home for the playhouse, which has been built to last.
Mitre 10 Mega Queenstown marketing and promo manager Toni Boatwright says they were blown away by the number of nominations received, all of whom were deserving, but says their team believes Wakatipu Plunket is "the perfect home" for it, and is a place were it’ll "truly make a difference".
"They do such amazing work in the community, and lots of kids will get to use it."
Wakatipu Plunket community services coordinator Tanya Moffat says the playhouse will be moved "as soon as possible" to their Arrowtown site, on Cardigan St.
"I’m just blown away by the [generosity] of Mitre 10 and Women’s Shed ... and being nominated to receive this gift that will just keep on giving."
