'Remarkable recovery' for one-punch victim

The victim of a one-punch attack in Cow Lane last month has made a ''remarkable recovery''.

Detective Sergeant Brian Cameron, of Queenstown, said the Sri Lankan father-to-be was now awake, responsive and able to converse.

He was left in a coma with a fractured skull in Dunedin Hospital's intensive care unit after the incident about 3.20am on March 12.

A 23-year-old Queenstown man was subsequently charged with causing grievous bodily harm to the man with intent to injure him and a 24-year-old man was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to him with reckless disregard for the safety of others.

-Inquiries are continuing into the cause of a crash on Gorge Rd last month, which left a 22-year-old German woman in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital.

Det Sgt Cameron said the woman remained in ICU and was being supported by her family, who travelled from Germany to be with her soon after the crash.

The woman was left in a black Honda Odyssey for several hours on Wednesday, March 13, after the car crashed over an embankment. The woman was found inside the car about 10.30am.

Det Sgt Cameron said no charges had been laid yet and police were waiting on the results of forensic testing.
