Road spikes used to stop 'erratic' driver

Queenstown police had to use road spikes to stop a Brazilian woman they say was driving erratically early this morning.

The 30-year-old, who lives in the resort, was followed by police with flashing lights for about 10 minutes down Malaghans Rd without stopping.

Senior Sergeant Glenn Wilkinson, of Queenstown, said when the woman was finally stopped by the spikes near Industrial Place on Gorge Rd, she told police she was unaware she was required to pull over.

A member of the public called police about 1am to say the woman had been swerving on the road and braking unpredictably.

Snr Sgt Wilkinson praised the person who made the call.

No alcohol was detected on the woman's breath and it was not a high-speed pursuit.

She was to appear in the Queenstown Lakes District Court for failing to stop for police.
