Two men stabbed during Queenstown brawl

One man is in critical condition in Dunedin Hospital after being stabbed during a confrontation in Queenstown early this morning, while another is in the same hospital in serious condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis said police also asked for anyone who located a knife in the Queentown CBD to notify them immediately by calling 111.

He said a third man was hit by a bottle during the fight, reported to have involved up to 15 people, but that person was yet to make himself known to police.

Queenstown Police were called to the fight, between two groups, about 2.20am.

Det Snr Sgt Inglis said there were a considerable number of people and vehicles passing through the area at the time and police wanted to hear from anyone who witnessed, or was involved in, the incident.

St John Ambulance was first called to Camp St at 2.24am and transported one male with stab wounds to Lakes District Hospital.

He was then flown to Dunedin.

An hour later, at 3.26am, an ambulance was called to St Georges Ave, on Queenstown Hill between Highview Terrace and Goldfield Heights.

There another male was also found in serious condition, with stab wounds, and was also flown to Dunedin Hospital.

Anyone with information was asked to call 105, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
