Teen takes dad's car for an early morning joyride

A Queenstown teenager has been referred to youth aid after taking his mates for a joyride in his father's car this morning.

Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the 15-year-old unlicensed driver took his father's ute out for a spin at 1.20am.

Three other 15-year-old boys were also in the vehicle when it was stopped by police.

There was no driving fault, Sgt Watt said.

"They were ... returned home.

"Their parents were unaware that they had taken the vehicle or were out driving around.

"[The driver] has been referred to youth aid for follow up.''
