Coronet Peak's new $20million chairlift should be certified for commercial use this weekend and handed over to the Queenstown skifield's owner, NZSki, on Monday.

Ski area manager Nigel Kerr said the high-speed six-seater, which follows the line of the old Coronet Express chairlift, was ''road-tested'' yesterday with water containers on its chairs.

Coronet Peak opens on June 15.

The Remarkables skifield is due to open this Saturday.
