Tourist removed from plane

An Australian tourist was removed from a plane and arrested for allegedly threatening staff on board a flight from Queenstown Airport.

The 48-year-old man was heading back to Australia on a Virgin flight on Tuesday when he allegedly became loud and abusive to flight attendants.

Sergeant Kate Pirovano, of Queenstown, said the man was ''intoxicated and had to be removed'' from the aircraft about 4pm.

He was charged with speaking to flight staff in a threatening manner.

Sgt Pirovano said he was likely to appear in the Invercargill District Court this week.

''It goes to show you have to behave yourself on planes.''
