The South Canterbury Indoor Bowls drawn closing day pairs provided some very close games with only the James Blissett, Kelvin Lockyer combination winning all three of their games to run out the winners.

Three teams had two wins and a draw, with Kevin Anngow and Janet Briggs second on a countback from Carolyn Cooper and Debs Ruffell third, and Allan Gibson and Merv Shand fourth. The club challenge was won by St Joseph’s; Kevin Anngow, Carol Dawson, Kay and Syd Austin.

The bonus incentive run throughout the season was won by Alan Reid. The best performed player across the South Canterbury Championships was Jenelle Lockyer for the second consecutive year.

This weekend the Blossom Festival tournament in Alexandra is being well supported by our local bowlers. It is a good way to conclude the winter season.

The summer season however starts immediately with summer pairs on October 8 and 22. The Christmas fours tournament is on November 29 and the pairs on November 30. Last year the pairs had a full entry, so for local bowlers get your entries in early. — David Mealings South Canterbury Indoor Bowls Publicity Officer
