The Owaka and District Schools 150th Jubilee is coming up and committee members are setting up for the event in March.
The weekend-long celebration will invite past, present and all interested people to come along and discover the history of the schools and how everything is now.
Schools involved in the Jubilee include Owake/Owaka, Owaka District High School, Otekura, Ahuriri Flat, Purakauiti, Houipapa, Glenomaru, Ratanui, Browns/Owaka Valley, Tahatika, Tawanui, Tarara, Purekireki, Pounawea, Puketiro, Catlins River/Hinahina, Romareka, Katea, Papatowai/Stuarts, Chaslands, Rimu, Kahuika, Maclennan, Tahakopa, Tautuku, Waipati, Port Molyneux and The Catlins Area School.
Jubilee committee chairwoman Karen Bradfield said various upgrades were on the go in preparation for the event.
"We have many things ongoing which will hopefully all be ready for the celebration," Mrs Bradfield said.
"These include the pathway between the memorial hall and the swimming pool, which will hopefully be fixed up with bricks.
"The idea is that the bricks will have been sponsored by members and families of the community, and others if they would like.
"It should encourage people to use the pathway and be a fantastic feature to the town."
On Friday, March 7, people will be able to have a social supper and register at the Owaka Memorial Community Centre.
Then on Saturday, there will be kapa haka, cake cutting, bell ringing and school photos, followed by morning tea and other activities around the township including free museum entry a bell ringing and a dance at the community centre.
On Sunday, there will be a jubilee church service and the official opening of the paved brick pathway.
Many other activities will also be held across the weekend.
The Catlins Area School students gave Forest & Bird volunteers Jane and Jim Young, along with Mrs Bradfield, a hand planting some feature plants for the hill between the school, the swimming pool and the Little Hoiho daycare.
"We will be putting in 28 specimen trees to signify the 28 schools which have been in the area throughout the years," Mrs Bradfield said.
"We’re also hoping to have a map for people to drive themselves around if they please to see where each school was situated in their time."
Mrs Bradfield said the committee hoped many people would come along to the jubilee and celebrate the occasion.
"A lot of people are interested in the history of Owaka and the areas surrounding, so it will be a great way to show off the history and how everything is from then to now."
People could register by contacting The Catlins Area School.
