Conference for churches

Presbyterian church representatives from throughout Otago and Southland have converged on Balclutha for a rural churches conference.

The Otago-Southland synod of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand organised the event, which started on Thursday and will finish tomorrow.

The theme of the rural conference is "Mission in the New Millennium".

Synod mission adviser Bruce Fraser said participants were taking part in workshops covering leadership, worship, and community. They were also looking at trends in farming and their implications on rural churches.

Guest speakers are British Columbia-based ministers David and Linda Webber, whose congregation, in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region, is made up of house churches scattered across the rural region of 80,000sq km.
