Balclutha's most dangerous intersection will be permanently closed.
A trial closure of the northern end of Ryrie St has been in place since last October after police dubbed it "the most dangerous intersection in the district". They said there were too many road rules for drivers to consider when negotiating the three-way intersection at Ryrie, James and Clyde Sts.
In May, the council decided to make the temporary closure permanent.
Council district assets manager Jules Witt said a design had been drafted and the council was seeking input from the New Zealand Transport Agency.
The outcome was likely to be a cul-de-sac.
Once a concept design had been approved, a letter would be sent to Ryrie St residents and nearby businesses, Mr Witt said. He hoped the work would be complete by the end of the year.
