Dash and splash in a flash

Petra Anderson (12), of Clinton, leads a group of hardy enthusiasts on their way into the surf at the midwinter swim at Kaka Point on Sunday.

About 40 people took part in the icy swim to celebrate the shortest day of winter. Participants dressed in a variety of outfits for the event from Speedo trunks to wetsuits, animal onesies and as fictional characters.

Afterwards, participants were treated to hot water bottles and a sausage sizzle. There were prizes for least dressed and best costume.
