Clutha residents can expect a wave of floats making their way down main street Balclutha on Saturday including one designed with Disney film Moana in mind.

The annual Balclutha Santa Parade will take place this Saturday with floats starting in George St and making their way down Clyde St towards the Balclutha War Memorial Hall.

St Joseph's School Parent Teacher Association member Rachel Jenkinson said the school was working on its float for the parade inspired by Disney film Moana.

''It's just something that the kids are excited about at the moment being one of the big hit movies,'' she said.

Clutha District Council community development adviser Jean Proctor said there were about 30 floats or groups registered in the Santa Parade this year.

Some groups would walk down the street rather than making a float.

She was excited about the group of schoolchildren who took part in some ''circus workshops'' before the parade so they would have a circus skill to perform on the day.

''They'll be able to do some baton-twirling and things like that. I'm not sure how that will go, but it's all about taking part.''

Mrs Proctor said the parade audience could expect the usual floats from local schools, kindergartens and, of course, Santa himself.

Other community groups had also coincided their events with the timing of the Santa Parade such as ''Toot for Tucker'' and the Christmas Tree extravaganza at the Balclutha Presbyterian Church.

Mrs Proctor said the parade was about bringing the community together.

''[It's about] celebrating, I daresay, not just Christmas but also the community and working together,'' she said.

The parade starts at 1pm.
