Keep Calm and Carry Yarn is a close-knit circle including (from left) Ann Rogers, Ruth Andrews, Lynn Gwilliam and Annette Calvert, who meet at Balclutha Library each Friday at 10am.

"I’m new to town and this is my way of meeting people," Mrs Calvert said.

"Knitting is relaxing and meditative and, of course, you have unique gifts for friends and family but it’s nicer to do as a social thing rather than on your own at home because other minds can help shed light on whatever you want to talk about — whether it’s a knitting problem or anything."

The Carry Yarn team said everybody was welcome, especially young learners, and the group flowed into diamond-art and greeting card making later in the day.
