Mr Bonney took the fresh lamb leg for his involvement with Balclutha Town & Country Club and its bowls arm since moving nearby in the late 1980s, contributing as treasurer and secretary while keeping his arm and judgement in as an umpire and tournament organiser.
He has also served as a South Otago bowls committee delegate and is a life member of Bowls South Otago and the umpires’ association.
"I’ve been in Balclutha since 1980 and, to be honest, I barely knew there was a town and country club till we shifted right here in 1989 and I’ve been tied up with bowling ever since" he said.
Surprised by his prize, Mr Bonney thanked Silver Fern Farms and his Town & Country club and bowling friends for their appreciation and support.
