Heavy rain has caused flooding in parts of Otago today, closing roads and affecting water schemes. Rivers are also rising in the province.
The Clutha District Council said customers on the North Bruce and Waihola water schemes were urged to conserve water use due to a broken pipe near or under the railway line.
The area was flooded at the moment so can't be accessed and the reservoir is down to 25%.
Those on the Glenkenich Rural water scheme were also asked to conserve water, as due to poor river conditions the treatment plant was struggling to meet demand.
The Clutha district was experiencing some surface flooding, particularly around Milton, and motorists were warned to take care on roads.
The council said Elliotvale Rd was closed from Toko Mouth Rd to Blackbridge Rd, Toko Mouth Rd was closed from Tokoiti, and some other roads had warning signs on them.
It asked that motorists drive to the conditions, including watching speeds and following distances.
In North Otago, thousands of litres of water had to be pumped out of Oamaru properties last night by the Fire Service after a weather bomb hit the town. MetService duty meteorologist Claire Flynn said from 6pm to 7pm, 16.2mm of rain fell.
Meanwhile, rivers around the province continue to rise.
The Kye Burn at Scott's Lane, in Central Otago, has reached high level, while the Taieri River at Sutton has reached its first flood warning.
In Dunedin, 23.2mm of rain was recorded in the 24 hours to 8am, and 70mm total in the past week.
At the Kakanui River at Clifton Falls Bridge 33mm has fallen in the 24 hours to 8am, with 70mm total in the past week.
At Table Hill in the Clutha District there has been 26mm rain in the past 24 hours and 56mm total in the past week.
The Tuapeka Punt would not be operating again today due to high river levels.
