It is amazing how many meals you can feed a family with a kilogram of mince or sausage meat, a seminar in Balclutha heard this week.

About 10 people attended the Clutha Week for Women seminar.

Tutor Robyn Thomson said people should shun the convenience of takeaways and fast food. There was no reason why, with a bit of knowledge and skill, families could not have good meals for very little cost.

Gore butcher Tony Parish demonstrated meat-boning techniques and the best ways to get the most of meat cuts, before Mrs Thomson, armed with only a handful of ingredients, created several meals for the group.
