Tapanui West Otago Promotions asked the West Otago Community Board to help with the cost of creating and installing two signs at entrances to the town.
The signs have key symbols highlighting some of the amenities in the town, as well as information to show Tapanui was used as a film location for Pete's Dragon.
In a letter to the community board, the promotions group said the cost of the signs would be about $1047.65 each.
This did not include installation.
At the inaugural West Otago Community Board meeting last Wednesday, Cr John Herbert, of the Clutha District Council, said it was unclear exactly how much money the promotions group wanted from the board.
The letter indicated there were two signs to be installed but the quote and design for only one was provided.
Board member Bruce Robertson also pointed out the quote for the sign was valid until April 10 of this year.
The community board was happy with the designs, but wanted clarification from the promotions group about what it wanted from the board.
