Watering restricted

The first stage of water restrictions are in force throughout the Clutha district just as the weather forecast has a distinctly wet look.

Stage one of the Clutha District Council's "summer mode" took effect from Monday.

It meant watering was restricted to between 8pm and 8am.

Watering systems and sprinklers could be used during these times but should not be left unattended and the occupier must ensure water was not wasted, council communications co-ordinator Jamie Shaw said.

"Exemptions may be granted by council on a case-by-case basis to commercial properties and for irrigation, depending on the level of restrictions in place, the extent of the dry period and the time of the year."

The restrictions were to help ensure there was enough water during summer and so tougher restrictions could be avoided.
