In the senior women’s combined division one, Balclutha AFC Women played Roslyn Wakari AFC Shetlands for the second round of the season in Balclutha on Saturday, fortunately getting to start and finish before the rain arrived.

They started strongly and within the first five minutes Stacey Bell scored a phenomenal goal in the bottom right corner from about 18m.

The game continued to push and push but the women just could not get another goal.

Roslyn Wakari countered and got one before the half ended.

Knowing it was going to be a tough second half the teams kept pushing and eventually a perfect through-ball was played to Fiona Doherty to finish off.

Roslyn Wakari pushed back quickly, scoring off a corner to make it 2-2.

With about 15 minutes to go, Jessie O’Hara had the ball down the left wing, and passed to Abbie Brice then on to Leah Marsden to have a shot from 18m, chipping the keeper to make it 3-2.

Player of the day was Stacey Bell for playing some great balls and staying strong against Roslyn Wakari.
