Fiordland appears to be a major star in Hollywood director Ridley Scott’s latest film, if a new trailer for the film is anything to go by.

Alien: Covenant, featuring actors Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace, was filmed partly in Fiordland, mainly around Milford Sound, between March and July last year.

The film’s latest trailer, released this week, features clear shots of Mitre Peak and other scenery from Fiordland National Park.

Alien: Covenant is the sequel to the 2012 film Prometheus, which itself was a prequel to the successful 1970s to ’90s Alien franchise.

The Milford area stands in for an uninhabited world in the movie.

Misty Fiordland views dominate the trailer almost as much as characters, aliens and spaceships.

In the 2.25-minute clip, characters step out of their ship and into a dark damp wilderness.

The film is scheduled to debut in New Zealand cinemas on May 18.
