Fire prompts callout to Te Anau hotel

Firefighters were called to a Te Anau hotel early today after a BBQ caught fire.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman said two trucks from Te Anau Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a commercial building in the Southland town at 5.29am.

"The information I have is that the BBQ was on a wooden balcony on the first floor''.

The blaze was extinguished about 20 minutes later and no injuries were reported.

The spokesman said he was unaware of the extent of the damage to the building.

A post on the Te Anau Volunteer Fire Brigade's social media page confirmed the incident occurred at the Distinction Luxmore Hotel.

There was no comment from the hotel.
