Trio arrested after illegal firearms, drugs found

Police have made three arrests in Gore following the discovery of illegal firearms and drugs at two properties.

Eastern Southland area response manager Senior Sergeant Cynthia Fairley said Gore and Invercargill police executed two search warrants today with help from the Armed Offenders Squad.

"Two East Gore addresses were searched and as a result, police located two firearms and drugs from the addresses.’’

A 42-year-old man, who had a warrant out for his arrest, was located by police and charged with possession of a pistol.

He appeared in Invercargill District Court today and was remanded in custody until February 25.

A 22-year-old woman also faced charges in relation to the pistol.

At the second property, another 42-year-old man was charged with possession of a cut-down firearm and other drug-related charges.

The woman and that man were to appear in Gore District Court on February 5.

Police said they wanted to encourage members of the public to continue to provide any information about drug-dealing in the area.
